Here’s how we gave a modern Epi Casino a vintage look.
The owner of a modern “natural” finished Epiphone casino wanted it to look and feel like a vintage 60’s Casino with a sunburst and lacquer finish.Epiphone uses a polyurethane top finish which dries like hard plastic. We needed to remove all of that poly, then prep and refin using vintage style nitrocellulose lacquer (or “nitro”.) We also had our friends at Lollar Guitars build a new set of their P-90’s into the original chrome-finished covers. The end result turned out beautifully, but it takes a lot of work to get there.
In it’s original finish of clear polyurethane.
After removing the electronics, we shipped the pickups to Lollar to be rebuilt into their brilliant vintage-style P-90, then sanded away all the old poly by hand.
After re-assembly, this beauty looks, feels, and sounds like a new – and by that we mean old, guitar!
I have a casino and have been thinking about doing this with the finish. How much do you charge for this re-finish?
Thanks,
Dan.
Dan, sorry to have missed your comment/question for so long. If you’re still curious please send me a quick note at info@chicagofretworks.com with a description of your guitar (color can matter) and I’ll send you an estimate! -Steve
Steve (Or To Whom It May Concern): The “Ice Tea” Casino finish is the one thing I’d have done to any of my guitars.
I have a Lennon Signature model (it’s not a numbered one, so I have no worries about “de-valuing” it). It’s a natural finish with just a thin lacquer coating. **Oddly it appears that it was originally a sunburst & someone went to the trouble of getting a sunburst & stripping it- a la the original Lennon (the front is meticulous, while there’s a little bit of tell tale “black shadow” on some of the grain of the back.
I’d love to get an couple estimates here for potential “Ice Tea” refinishes. First- An estimate for just the front & sides. No back or neck. And second- an estimate for front, sides & back- again no neck (I love sanded down, satin/non-gloss finishes & this neck is perfect, as is)…interested in having it “present” as an “Ice Tea” finish, but doing that as inexpensively as possible. Thanks & Blessings Of Love & Light~ Rev. John C. Link
John,
I’ll get in touch with an estimate.

Hey,
I’d like to do something similar, modern natural Casino refinished to sunburst. Rather than ice tea, I would prefer a darker look, more like John’s. Back, neck, and sides dark brown. Could you give me a price?
Hi there that guitar is gorgeous you do beautiful work. I’m just wondering how much it would cost to have the same thing done to my mic casino just without the lollar p90s.
Thank you
Ian, Sorry I’m just seeing your question here but I believe we’ve already talked about this. Let me know if you have more questions (773) 698-6246.
